Herman Cain Says Goodbye

The Washington Examiner carries  the content of a letter from Herman Cain's lawyer to Atlanta Fox 5 that Cain will not respond to a  claim by an Atlanta woman, Ginger White, that she has had a thirteen year relationship with the GOP Presidential candidate.  Atlanta Fox 5 television will carry the story tonight.
"Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault - which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.

Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults - a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public's right to know and the media's right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one's bedroom door.
This might have worked a dozen years ago, as it did with Democrats and Bill Clinton, but GOP conservatives will no longer support him -- beginning right now.

That's a damn shame, especially if the charges have been ginned-up just to remove him from the Presidential race.

We are all basically MORAL creatures, but the constant bombardment by media sources only serves to refute that, and we fall into the trap and consent to amoral behavior.

None of us are perfect, and for any one sector of the population to all but demand such perfection while clearly at fault and to blame themselves, smacks of hypocracy of the highest order (imho).

    Good post.

Stay safe and dry out there today.

He still would make a decent VP for Gingrich.
(yeah, I can dream...the price is still right)

I would remind you that Newt has had some "affairs" as well. So far the media hasn't warmed up to that fact.

The best read I saw on the Cain situation was by Eric Erickson on RedState. His opinion is just as "final" as mine but he points out that the Ginger White affair went on during Herman's bout with prostate cancer. That would seem to me to not be very likely considering the importance of the prostate for satisfactory sexual activity.

  • Gadfly:
We definitely have a double-standard at work here...the GOP gets hammered for ANYthing, while the DEMS get a slap on the wrist and everyone moves along.

Newt's tryst was 30 years ago, and rest assured, the libs will start on HIM next...then, when that gets old, they'll get on Romney.
(or whoever else leads tha pack)

Make every candidate unable to run against, let alone defeat The "O"...

And the LAST thing we need is FOUR more years of what we've been getting.

But that's just my thougths on it all.
