The shooter wore a ballistic helmet, ballistic vest, ballistic leggings, a throat protector, a groin protector, gloves, a gas mask — all black. - WaPo
As far as I know and from everything I've read, OWS completely disavows the Black Bloc, its tactics and methods. And, at this point, there is absolutely nothing that connects the shooter to either OWS or those who engage in Black Bloc tactics. ~ Daily Kos
Based on my investigation of the Occupy Black Bloc terrorists, that began in November of 2011, and my interaction with Occupy Movement members in Florida, it is my opinion that James E. Holmes fits the profile of a 20 something Black Bloc terrrorist and that his shooting up of the Aurora Co movie theater was payback for the Batman movie slaming the OWS. ~ Bill Warner, P.I.As you can read above, commenters on both the right and left want to infer that there is a formal organization in this country called Occupy Black Bloc which has committed violent acts in Seattle, Oakland, Chicago, Cleveland and anywhere else that havoc has erupted at an OWS protest. The fact is that a black bloc is a tactic employed at protest rallies worldwide. Mad Mike's America explains:
A black bloc is a tactic for protests and marches whereby individuals wear black clothing, scarves, ski masks, motorcycle helmets with padding, or other face-concealing items. The clothing is used to conceal marchers’ identities, appear theoretically as one large unified mass, and promote solidarity.
The tactic was developed in 1980s Germany by autonomists [Marxists] protesting squatter evictions, nuclear power and restrictions on abortion among other things. Black blocs gained broader media attention outside Europe during the 1999 anti-WTO demonstrations, when a black bloc damaged property of GAP, Starbucks, Old Navy, and other multinational retail locations in downtown Seattle.Finding what really brought about the Aurora shootings will take time, but there much to be learned about James Holmes, his motives, his state of mind and his psychological profile. Dave Cullen, the author of "Columbine", writes in today's New York Times:
At this very moment, the police have probably gathered a great deal of evidence from James Holmes. They may well have a clear read on his motives right now. It is vital that they share this information fully with the public, but just as vital that they conceal much or all of it while they conduct their investigation. Testimony from friends, family and survivors of the massacre is also crucial, and witnesses are highly suggestible. Information must be withheld in the short run to safeguard corrupting their stories ... perhaps [for] several weeks.
Over the next several days, you will be hit with all sorts of evidence fragments suggesting one motive or another. Don’t believe any one detail. Mr. Holmes has already been described as a loner. Proceed with caution on that. Nearly every shooter gets tagged with that label, because the public is convinced that that’s the profile, and people barely acquainted with the gunman parrot it back to every journalist they encounter. [A] Secret Service report determined that it’s usually not true.
